The profession of electrical engineering touches all aspects of our lives in that electrical engineers design and fabricate devices and systems critical in applications such as computing, communications, health care, manufacturing and automation, power generation and utilization, transportation, and entertainment. An element very important to these and many other applications is the microelectronic device or system.

The undergraduate program in electrical engineering fosters a willingness to learn concepts and ideas from diverse disciplines, as well as communication and leadership skills.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the Bachelor of Science program in electrical engineering is designed to prepare the student for a variety of experiences upon graduation. Electrical engineers play an ever-increasing role in the design and building of major facets of today’s and tomorrow’s health care systems and medical research through the application of microelectronic instrumentation and diagnostic tools such as MRI and CAT scan systems. The field of electrical engineering truly permeates every facet of our lives and thus provides excellent employment opportunities to the general practitioner or specialist in more than 35 different subspecialties.

Advising

Advising is an important part of the registration process. All students must see their academic adviser before class registration for the following semester. The School of Engineering places an academic hold on the student’s record that can only be removed after meeting with their academic adviser. The adviser will assist students with choosing the appropriate classes to ensure that all prerequisites have been met.

As a student in the electrical or computer engineering program, refer to this page for the necessary advising forms. Once the forms have been completed, schedule an appointment with the academic adviser. Please stop by the ECE main office, 601 W. Main St., Room 203, if any questions arise.
